My Story

I joined the SUU faculty in January 2014 and have been dedicated to #BuildingBetterStudents. I do that through designing engaged and challenging courses to help prepare students to apply economic tools throughout their life. I am the Director of Health Education Action Lab, a research lab dedicated to giving students opportunities to engage in research. In the lab we train students how to conduct research, collaborate with them on faculty directed projects, and mentor students on their own research projects.

I grew up near Portland, Oregon and went to several colleges before I finished my undergrad degree at BYU. While at BYU, I met my wife, Kelli, who completed her Ed.S in School Counseling and Psychology. Together we are the parents of 4 energetic boys.

Prior to arriving at SUU, I was an Assistant Professor of Economics at University of Texas at Arlington, where I taught Sports Economics, Economics of Public Policy and Econometrics. I also worked as an Economist for Litigation Analytics, Inc. where I specialized in estimating lost wages and cost of care in civil litigation cases.

If you meet me and want to get the conversation started, here are a few topics I would recommend: coaching youth football, Star Wars (my dog's name is Boba Fetch), hiking trails near Cedar City, and what makes a good collection (for me it's Wheaties boxes).
